The light comes with a dimmer remote, and can be hand-dimmed on the attached switch as well, which seems to work better for me. Based on reading some reviews, I bought the "programmable timer" as well, but have not taken the time to figure the programming out at this point. Rather plugged the light into a simple $8 mechanical on/off timer, which seems to work perfectly. Unless you want to recreate the dawn/dusk effect of sun-up and sun-down in the tank, you do not need the timer. My tank is about 24" deep and the light penetrates very well to the bottom. No more blue algae on the bottom of the tank, yay! The red/purple LED's enhance any reddish hue on your plants very nicely as well. In addition, the heat output of this light is hugely less than that of the Marineland fixture, which helps with evaporation/water loss in the tank, and it sits about 6 inches above the tank as well, which keeps water splashes off the plastic cover over the LED's. A lot less cleaning necessary that way. Unless you have a hood covering the fixture, though, you will be able to see the LED's and the the "backlit" effect off the wall might be a little much. Not knowing yet how long this fixture lasts and how long it stays as bright, I would definitely buy it again, and much prefer it over the Marineland units, so far. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nice light - very bright - seems to work well *by M***O on Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2018* I've only had it on for a few days but it's doing a nice job. The controls are a little tricky so read the instructions. I finally figured out how to dim and turn one set on versus the other. Don't panic if the fan doesn't start up right away. It will. If you watch it, when it gets hot it turns itself on and off. There's an extra cord in the box so you're connecting multiple items. Be sure to unbox the whole thing or you'll get confused. Also, you'll need a screwdriver to remove cardboard inside the box with the fan [it's a protector]. Read the instructions! It seems pretty sturdy and it's very bright. I'll update in another few months as I'm testing it on Wisteria right now. I plan on making my smaller tank a planted / Blue German Ram tank. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Get the timer/dimmer. *by J***D on Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2017* Fits my Aqeuon 210 perfectly. The light source providesmore than enough light to the bottom of my 24 inch tank. Perfect for growing carpet type plants. I also purchased the timer/dimmer to adjust the brigtness and set the number of hours my tank receives light. You are also able to adjust the red, blue, green and white light. It was recommended to me by a fellow hobbyist.
