The shift boots on these are a very hard leather, and I've gone through a few OEM replacements that all ended with the same fate. Just use some scissors to cut off excess material, and remove the zip tie holding in the chrome ring, and then feed the top of the boot inside of itself to clean up the look a bit, and boom! Miata's transmission get very hot, and the heat radiates a lot through the boot, however, with this boot, it seems to block out a bit of the heat.
