I've seen a lot of people talk about using one of these stones over the usual sharpening steel that come with knife sets so I thought I would give it a try.Firstly it is well packaged with several layers of bubble wrap so the stone was still intact, always a good start! The pedestal and rubber mat work brilliantly at holding the stone securely, doesn't move at all when set in the base.Now for actually sharpening, I have a lot to learn in terms of technique. I tried this once and it made a marginal improvement in my knife but not as well as I'd hoped.
