As for the mercenaries from the Carpathians, serving the Scottish King, in hunting down our Viking shipwrecked survivors I am guessing that they were either Wallachians (modern Romanians) or a Slavic group such as the Ruthenians (modern West Ukrainians, the Polane (modern Poles who at the time also employed Wolin Vikings as mercenaries) or Slovenes (modern Slovenians). It is sheer lazy scholarship not to make this clear. The East Europeans are and always have been separately identified. If they are to be part of a movie then let's make this clear. In terms of historical context the only known East European mercenaries fighting in early Britain were mounted warriors from Poland provided to King Cannut by his grandfather, Mieszko the First of the Kingdom of Poland to help in the conquest of England. Review: Not bad at all, not bad at all... - I quite enjoyed this film despite a lot of negative reviews and ratings. I think we are always expecting those top-notch Hollywood movies and rarely give the others a chance. I didn't find fault with this film at all - better than lots of other films out there, way better. The only thing I had to "get my head around" is watching typical South African scenery and vegetation and telling myself they are in Scotland...although, after a while I forgot about that (other than the odd, wow, it really is beautiful here) and just watched for watching pleasure. Someone made a comment that the "romance" is under-developed...but what do you expect in those circumstances?
