As a result they twisted easily making it difficult to secure tightly. The buckle does not look anything like the pictures. They are cheap and flimsy and kept coming loose. I had a beach cart (folded) and 2 beach chairs on the roof of my car for a 4 hour drive and had to stop at least 9 times to tighten the straps.
