I secured the port into the bracket using hot glue. In order to protect the port from possible further damage, I plugged the male end of this low profile OBD extension cable into the port and ran the female end of the cable a short distance away at a convenient location. (The male connector does not poke down at all into the cabin. You cannot see it unless you look directly upward from the floor, or in a mirror.) With this arrangement, an OBD scanner never has to be connected to the vehicle's original OBD port. Any scanner will now be plugged into the female end of the extension cable. I tested the cable today with our OBD 2 scanner and the cable worked just fine.
