As expected quality will be a bit muffled due to throat transmission and hearing others thru a 'tube'. But it does the job when I need to speak in discreet voice and covert photography. People say I sound like I have a cold, but that's acceptable, using this forces me to practice good enunciations! I also tested on my SamGalS3 using voice recorder and the playback was very good/useable for a whisper/throat transmission. As for build quality and durability in field usage, time will tell, doesn't seem to have cheap plastics and careless assembly, so that's a good sign. Only used it for 2 days. It'll tickle a bit... if you're not used to have an object (albeit soft rubber nipple earpiece) in your ear.btw, on the SamGalS3, I tweaked the in-call quality and can achieve good quality incoming phone audio ('My Call Sound', optimized for left ear, etc). ### ⭐⭐⭐ Great quality for what it is, but the nature of this form factor has drawbacks *by P***Y on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 15, 2013* 3 stars seems a bit harsh for how I feel about it, but 4 seems too high. It is what it is; a throat mic with earpiece. It works great with phones and my Macbook pro. The sound quality of the mic leaves something to be desired. In test conversations, people could understand me, but they wouldn't describe it as "good" sound quality. The earpiece is the same. It's an acoustic tube, not an IEM, so the quality is not suited to music, but for vocal content is absolutely fine.That sounds borderline negative, and I don't want it to be. I will use it. It's actually, in my opinion, the best form factor possible for a phone headset. It's incredibly convenient and comfortable, and immune to wind noise and a lot of other things that make normal headsets perform poorly.So to sum up, I would recommend this purchase, as long as you understand it's not going to sound as good as a normal headset in good conditions. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Exactly what you want in a true throat-mic, as good as you could hope for anywhere near this price point *by R***S on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 10, 2013* I might have given this four stars if the previous reviewers hadn't been excessively harsh, leaving me to balance out the rating to something more accurate.This is a true laryngophone (Throat Mic). This design intentionally makes trade-offs compared to a "normal" mic/headset, so if you're looking for something that works/sounds the same as other headsets, this is the wrong hardware. The open-air microphones used in other headsets use will pick up all sound in an environment (the best of the open mics use sophisticated noise cancelling-designs to actively minimize "unwanted" sound, but they still struggle when noise and speech are similar volumes). A laryngophone like this, by contrast, detects the vibrations of the vocal cords directly---this means that speech will sound a little different (though surprisingly less distorted than one might expect), but almost none of the ambient sound will be included.I found a hoarse whisper to be reliably audible with these, and if you're listening carefully (or can play back the sound), mid-whispers are intelligible. Ambient noise did not meaningfully leak when I cranked up my car stereo as loud as I was willing to leave it for a few minutes testing, and my normal-level speech came through the headset just fine despite being almost undetectable in the external environment.The earpiece, again, makes trade-offs that typical users would object to. It places the noise-producing "speaker" part in the neck-level headset and pipes the sound output through a hollow tube up to the ear. The "earplug" part is relatively loose and generally sonically unobtrusive to the general environment, so the user retains full hearing volume and spatialization. This comes at the cost of some audio fidelity, though not significantly in the range of human speech.The in-line button is a godsend for users who need to trigger a walkie-talkie app on their phone (Zello can grab these events from the background without disrupting the active app on Android), but bear in mind that while the button is depressed, the mic is shorted and won't transmit sound (In Zello, for example, you have to use it to toggle sending on/off, rather than hold-to-talk). Volume controls would be nice, but when using this headset, you should have your volumes carefully preset or auto-leveling, since you won't want to (or won't be able to) fiddle with the volume as transmissions go by.My primary complaint is that cord is a little short for my needs and tends to catch/tug and can't be run under my clothes in while holding my phone away from my body. However, this can be solved with a TRRS extension audio cable, so it's hardly a deal-breaker. I kind of wish I had the untethered mobility of Bluetooth, but that entails increased battery drain on the device, sometimes finicky tethering (especially when fighting my car and other devices' Bluetooth), as well as requiring the headset to be kept charged (or supplied with fresh batteries). As it is, the cord is a reasonable compromise.In summary: This is a very specifically-targeted tool, and by not sucking at it's intended purpose, it will fall short of "normal" headsets when used for "normal" headset jobs.
