Much of the content appears in Perret's earlier book "New Comedy-Writing Step By Step". If you already have that book, don't bother buying this. If you haven't then I would recommend buying it rather than this volume. Perret is best known for being Bob Hope's head writer but it's a shame that his book makes little reference to contemporary comedians. The accompanying volume of comedy writing exercises is pretty good but nowhere near as comprehensive as Perret's "Comedy Writing Workbook". The strongest feature of Comedy Writing Self Taught is the practical advice on actually being a writer and how to build a career as a writer. As I mentioned earlier in this review, "New Comedy Writing......." is the book to get.

Do animals talk to each other?I was walking past a field that had two cows in it. One cow went, "Moooow."The other cow said, "I was going to say that."This book seems to be working for me.It's not the subject of a joke that makes for laughter - it's the "ridiculous" element in a joke that is the funny bit. As said by Stan Laurel of Laurel & Hardy.
