Smith’s specially formulated Honing Solution is nonpetroleum based and features built-in stone cleaning agents and rust/corrosion inhibitors. It can be used on all stones and is excellent for lubricating your Arkansas or Diamond Stone when sharpening. Never use an Arkansas Stone without some kind of lubricant, or you will clog the pores and cause it not to sharpen properly. Diamond Stones can be used dry, but we recommend that you use a lubricant for better performance.

**Q: Isn't it a law that they have to tell you what chemicals its made of? I don't see it anywhere. Is it mineral oil or wheres the sds sheet?**
A: You have to request the info.

**Q: Would this be a good oil for regular application to blades alone to prevent rust?**
A: Yes

**Q: Can this oil be used on norton crystolin combination india stones or dan whetstones?**
A: I have not used either of those stones. But I use six different stones. And four diamond impregnated ones. I use it on all. I've found this product creates much less mess. It wipes away easily. Where oil leaves a film. Also, it is consistently producing a great result. I think as long as you preferred media is not absorbent. It will do a good job.

**Q: So this stuff would be good for a jade stone sharpening/honing stone?**
A: Jade is soft so be careful when applying pressure.  Yes, this is excellent honing oil.
