This device is cunningly prepared to look like a high quality pencil thickness one, but is actually a sub-matchstick sized flint encased in a fat covering of inert metal. I bought 6 of these "Fire Steels" for a fire lighting class with a school group next week... They arrived yesterday, should I say 5 arrived.. The 6th has yet to make an appearance, I took one out of the packaging this morning to test it.. Low & behold, they don't work.. Lots of metal scraping off but ZERO sparks!!This is a first for me.. Never bought a Ferro Rod that didn't atleast have some sparks.I tried this one with the crappy scraper provided and I also tried it with the 90Β° spine on my Carbon Steel Mora...
