They tighten very decisively and feel secure. My only criticism is that when you release the tension, the whole thing moves freely. It is a little fiddly to position everything how you want it because there are so many planes of motion. BUT= I am still very happy that I bought these mounts. They hold my lights securely and the package of two units is excellent value for money. I would definitely buy them again and am happy to recommend them.
