(Not from the outside with a key)** A: Yes you can turn the August Lock manually to latch/unlatch the deadbolt manually from the inside. Additionally, you can use your existing key from the outside. **Q: does the second generation need the august connect for monitoring it away from home?** A: The docs say that it will work with a 3rd gen Apple TV. That's just not true---it doesn't. It does seem to work with the 4th Gen ATV, but you loose a lot of the reporting, etc, claimed by the Connect. That is, the ATV only tells you if the lock is open or closed. It doesn't tell you who opened it or when they opened it. The Connect isn't a viable solution, either. It doesn't really work at all. It connects poorly, and will actually control the lock remotely maybe 5% of the time so it's not a viable choice if you want to operate the lock remotely. So, practically speaking, given that none of the possible bridge devices actually work well enough to be useful, you cannot monitory away from home. **Q: Does it work with android phones? i have a galaxy s6, and will it work with only a wireless router for remote control?** A: The app works with Android phones. However, the reviews on the play store are abysmal because features like Auto Unlock simply do not work. This is no longer a new product and it is clear that August is not devoting the necessary resources to fix this product. Anyone with a bit of tech savvy should have no issue setting it up. Installation took a mere 5 minutes. Love that all our original keys can still be used. Make sure your deadbolt slides in and out of the door jam without any impedance. Anything making the motor work harder will wear it out faster or the lock won't engage correctly. Best to check this and have it aligned correctly before buying the smart lock as you don't change out the deadbolt itself. We also purchased the August Connect to access the unit via wifi, and away from home. The August connect does complain during setup unless it gets a "great" signal, but works just fine with just a "good" connection. We have ours inside a closet 2 metres away from the August lock and it works fine. Adding users is a bit annoying, as all new users need to install the app, setup an account, and have authorization from you. Not difficult, just a bit longer a process than expected. Upside is they use 2 step authentication to help with security, and no unauthorized strangers can connect to the lock once it's been paired with an owner (without a factory reset). Auto-unlock so far has been flawless. You do need to ensure both your wifi and bluetooth are on, on your phone, and make sure you don't reboot your phone or shut down the app. If you do while away, it will assume you aren't away and auto-unlock won't work (or you have to manually set yourself away on the app). Note both my wife and I are using iPhone 6 phones. Overall, quite happy with the unit. Now coming home with my hands full, I just open the door.
