FIVE MINUTES is plenty. YOu can repeat the lesson later on as often as you want, but, keep each session short and quick, because animals needs breaks, they do. and absolutely NO SCOLDING, none. While this clicker does work for dog training, it is actually a bit hard to click on the button. It will go down but it does (mine anyway) require a bit of strength and to push on it a certain way. It does free up my hand so that I can also hold a leash or if I needed my hands partially free for anything. The green loop on the back is a little bit too loose but it's not a big deal.
