Hand wash only.Mine was a transparent jar (recycle mark PS 6 on base suggests polystyrene, unexpanded obviously) so I can see the beans, with a dark lid and not the solid black jar version so I have to keep the jar in a cupboard to keep light away.For those unfamiliar with the range the fit of the patented lid is so close it will not slide off without pressing the button on the side of the lid to allow the pressure difference created to equalise. It then slides off very smoothly. To replace you press the button to slide the lid back on and the air tight seal is made.The idea for storing coffee beans I gather is you need to let CO2 from the beans out of the container whilst simultaneously stopping oxygen getting in. You can find debates on the validity of this storage theory all over the internet and I don't want to start another one here.I can certainly see how this jar can be effective at stopping oxygen getting in because it is air tight but the CO2 operation is unclear to me. If it's air tight how does the CO2 get out? That would tend to push the air tight lid off. So is there a slow leakage past the valve? is it different to a normal TightVac? Is this why the lid is marked COFFEEVAC and not TightVac? Nothing in the patent (US8231027) on this. Yes I lie in awake at night due to too much coffee thinking about such things.Bought purely on reputation from USA users. ### ⭐⭐⭐ I keep mine in a cool cupboard but would prefer not to have to *by M***R on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 February 2016* I can't see how it allows oxygen not to enter and CO2 to escape ... but it does keep coffee fresh. I can't say it is anything more than an airtight container though. Also, if you were designing a container specifically for the storage of coffee, wouldn't you manufacture it from non-transparent plastic since light is the biggest factor in coffee losing it's delicate flavour? Only 4 stars because for some reason I thought the clear part of the container would be glass. I must have not read the specification well enough, my mistake.
