    VERY ADDICTIVE GAME PLAY!!

*by F***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 June 2017*

I just LOVE this Game! This is one of the very best Games I have purchased in a long time! Got it out for the first time today – my partner wasn’t as enamoured of it as I, but then he’s very competitive, and like so many people, has a massive downer on games he says are based too much on ‘luck’ – but the definition of the word Game is more than mostly ‘chance’, and so I just don’t get this problem people have... I think if people are more honest with themselves, it’s more about them losing, and always wanting to be the ‘victor’ ; they just can’t bear to lose, and so if they think a Game is mostly or all skill, they can beat others because they get the chance to prove they are ‘better’ at something than someone else – it’s actually a great insecurity they have I think. With luck, they fear they may have to face the humiliation of actually losing because anyone can win – and they just can’t deal with it... To those I would simply say; games are not for you – and go think of another hobby! I play to win like anyone else – but I get EXACTLY the same amount of pleasure and enjoyment out of just playing – win or lose! Lecture over!I am absolutely addicted to this Game! Many complain about the dice-rolling or the 'luck’ factor - my partner does, but for me, this is its strength, and what makes it so addictive and interesting for me; apart from loving to roll dice, I do like the unpredictability - and why does everything have to be about skill? There’s plenty of ‘manipulation’ of the dice and choice in card-playing here that nobody seems to notice or mention... There are times I admit when it seems you are ‘stuck’ forever and can’t progress, and feel there are not enough Tank or Mine Cards in the Deck (there are only two of each) but then I soon realised that if there had been more, the games would be over way too quickly, and half of the suspense and excitement would have been lost... It’s the waiting for those all important Cards to come, and knowing that you can be caught at any minute, even though you may be miles ahead in the game!As for the theme; I hate anything to do with war – including movies and so on; the same goes for me with sport, though I notice many of these themes make great board games for some reason. I hate football – but I love the game ‘Soccerama’. (see my review for that title) The theme fits great here - BEAUTIFUL and stunning artwork - everything is top quality, and the Game was a bargain price - I just can’t fault it! It’s one of the best Games I have in my 700+ collection and could never tire of playing! Pity my partner doesn’t feel the same, as after a few days (if that!) I see it sitting un-played on one of the shelves in my Games Room...A million stars from me!!

simple game, really bad taste name....

*by N***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 June 2018*

As the other reviews state, this is a simple race game. Move your counters along the board in a straight line to the end. I was attracted by the very low price ~£12 and the game is very good value at that price. I play this against a 9 year old, and the games last little more than 5-10 minutes. They seem to enjoy it very much. To move your counter you must draw cards, and you have limited choice over which cards to pick. The rules over picking these are quite simple, but a bit odd, and so the first time you play it might put you off as too coplicated, but it really shouldn't as it does not take more than a couple of goes to get used to them. The game is based all around managing risk. I'll let you decide if that means skill or luck.I would normaly list the pros and cons, but here they could be the same based on what you are after. The rules are very simple, the game is very easy to play and does not last long.Thing is, I really just can't get over how bad taste it is to use a line from a famous poem as the title of a little board game

    Simple but effective

*by M***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 August 2019*

The mechanics are really simple but the game is quite subtle. There is luck (as there is in any battle situation) but also a bit of strategy, e.g. on when to finish your move so as to leave the next player with a poor situation (you are playing against the other players not all of you against the game). It feels like it gives a fairly realistic set of choices for WW1 land warfare (in the trench-using period) albeit in a simple, but playable, way. Could be seen as a bit gloomy by some people but I like it.
