Know that this will be a trial of error and patience. To save some time, take the quiz on "PutACupInIt.com" - they have a quiz for both menstrual discs and cups & it's a good starting point to see what cups and/or discs may work for you, especially for people who are not sure what features to look out for when choosing one.My review will be from the perspective of someone who is new to the menstrual disc and cup game. I have never even used tampons before. I have only ever tried the Moonthlies menstrual disc and Lily menstrual cup. For someone who is not used to sticking things up there, I found the menstrual disc easier to insert than the menstrual cup b/c when you fold it, the fold size is uniform all the way through while folding a menstrual cup still leaves some part of it bigger than its thinnest part (given the nature of its triangular design).That being said, this will be a learning curve if you have never used a disc or cup before. You will become very comfortable with your body after this - you have to. No lie - it took me ~1-2 hours to insert the disc and even after a couple of successful attempts, I was still learning. I attribute that partially to fear of the discomfort of insertion & just not recognizing WHAT it should feel like once you notch it in the right place. After I started recognizing the sensation, it became much easier and now I can insert it within a couple minutes.The disc's rim is sturdy, which helps with staying in place but it can leak if you did not insert it correctly and/or you don't empty it at least once throughout the day (depending if you're a heavy bleeder or not). I am able to sit comfortably and exercise if I want without feeling like something is poking me (this will also depend how far you insert it and how high your cervix is). A lot of people have talked about menstrual disc's autodumping feature but I never got the hang of that.Because it is made out of silicone, by nature of the material, it retains odors easily. You shouldn't smell anything while using it but once you take the disc out after half the day has gone by, don't be surprised by the odor. I have tried re-boiling the disc, cleaning it with soap, and leaving it outside in the sun (which did help fade the smell a little bit) but nothing completely took the odor away except time but even then, there was always a lingering smell. I don't think this is a deal-breaker though because the disc is going to be reused anyways. It beats the smell of reusable menstrual pads which is definitely noticeable outside of the body.Overall, I am pleased with my purchase & hope you find your compatible match because it does seem worth it once you do - for the environment and your wallet. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Super comfortable and mess free emptying *by M***O on December 23, 2024* I recently tried pretty much every disc with a pull loop I could find on Amazon. This was by far the most comfortable all the way around. The rim is firm enough to maintain its shape but still plenty soft enough to be able to fold it for insertion. The loops absolutely work for one hand removal. It is so amazing to be able to empty my disc without making a mess in my hand. So far I haven't removed any loops but I think I'll probably only remove one.I had been using the lumma disc in medium for several years before this. It works great but I wanted something with a loop. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Comfortable, works perfectly for night-time activities *by A***Z on September 18, 2024* I've been trying to get menstrual discs to work for me, with little to no success because of sizing/firmness issues. I thought the Moonthlies small would be perfect. On my lighter days, there are zero leaks. I can auto-dump by pushing a little. The stem is far too long for me, but once I tuck it in after placing my disc, it feels like nothing is even there. My cervix is normally average-height, but on my period it gets much lower. This disc has been perfect for those days. Compared to my cup (the Merula OS), I experience less cramps. I've used this during sex, and it works generally alright as long as I've emptied the disc beforehand.On my heavier days, though, I still leak, especially after using the toilet.
