The nominal high temp is 500 degrees. The implication of this temp is that one can sear meats on the Traeger. But after a couple tries I concluded that searing is not a reasonable capability of this grill. It works great as a smoker between 165 and 225 which is also the range of the Super Smoke feature. Above 225 the grill really behaves like an traditional convection oven since "smoke" basically disappears as the higher heat completely incinerates the wood chips. They call the resulting wood fumes "blue smoke" to get around this limitation. I found that beyond around 350 the grill sorta struggles. Based upon these results, I decided to keep my Weber Genesis II gas grill for traditional grilling and searing sous vide and smoked meats. I now use the Traeger just for smoking at 165 -225. So it has a very specific use as a "smoker" not and "grill". Long winded way of saying the nominal high temp is 500 but I found that temp not practically useful on the Traeger. **Q: I see a few bad reviews about the phone app. this is one of qualities that excited me the most. can anyone else tell me about their app experience?** A: I just got mine today from a local dealer. I was concerned about the complaints about the app and the WiFi. I contacted Traeger directly and got great support and an explanation as to what the issues was. They were very forthcoming and great to talk with. The issue is that Traeger's WiFi works on 2.4ghz and not 5ghz. Lots of people setup their dual mode WiFi 2.4 and 5 to use the same name. They try and connect to the 5ghz and the Traeger was hanging. The setup procedure tells you to use 2.4. My network is setup so that the 2.4ghz is named different than the 5ghz spectrum. You just need to connect your phone to the 2.4ghz WiFi when performing the setup, select the correct SSID for your 2.4ghz network and my setup worked first time. I performed the seasoning part of the setup and received alerts when it was heated up, when it completed shutdown, and I was able to see the temp as well. All worked flawlessly. There are two skus currently on the Traeger site, the sku ending in "ble" is our 2019 model, which is why it is titled 2019 Ironwood 650.
