One of the issues with the Black Betty reel was that you had to unscrew this nut with frozen hands in order to fix the problem. This reel comes with a simple push button that releases the spool from the reel. Hopefully I don't accidentally press it on the water! but another gain is that the release button remains attached to the spool whereas the knob on the Black Betty came completely off and seems to want to fall down an ice fishing hole at any chance it can...
