Original and best (back then).If you loved their Friday Rock Show & Metal for Muthas compilation album contributions you need this collection so you can hear them again.The original landmark album is here with a great set of bonus tracks and demos.... the demos are also available over on the Bandcamp platform at NYP with all proceeds supporting the Grenfell Tower Families.If you want to have the live experience I can heartily recommend catching the band Kev Riddles' Baphomet ... touring and playing these original numbers 🤘🖤 ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Massively underrated NWOBHM classic. *by R***O on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 26 June 2021* The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal was arguably the most important scene in the genre's history, producing some of the greatest acts of all time. But for every Iron Maiden or Def Leppard, there were countless bands that failed to achieve the level of success they deserved. Diamond Head is the most frequently cited example, but London's Angel Witch were just as worthy, and their self-titled debut album, released in 1980, remains a genuine magnum opus.With it's occult themed lyrics and gothic melodies, 'Angel Witch' represented a darker, more brooding take on the classic NWOBHM sound that would prove hugely influential to scores of thrash, black and death metal bands that emerged in subsequent years. Highlights like the anthemic title track, 'Confused', 'Sorceress' and 'Gorgon' are packed with powerful, catchy riffs, wicked time-changes and ripping leads, showcasing a level of musicianship and intensity that still impresses more than 40 years later. The sound quality of this '25th Anniversary Expanded Edition' is fantastic and the CD features a host of b-sides and live tracks as a bonus.While 'Angel Witch may not have catapulted Kevin Heybourne's crew into the big league, it remains an undisputed genre classic that can hold it's own against seminal records like 'Iron Maiden', 'On Through The Night' and 'Lightning To The Nations'. An excellent album that is highly recommended to all fans of classic heavy metal. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Memories are made of this..... *by D***A on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 10 August 2009* I used to love a bit of Angel Witch when I was young & full of teenage angst (those days when you & your mates used to go to each others houses & listen to records & talk drivel, mostly about football, music & girls from school you had no chance of scoring with) but had not ever gotten round to buying anything by them at the time. I stumbled across this as it was an Amazon "recommendation" & snapped it up.It's a great slice of NWOBHM nostalgia. Some of it is a bit of a cliche, some might argue that it is a bit dated but I think that if you take thses issues into account & remember that it is of its time, then you will find it an enjoyable record with some very worthwhile "extras".Angel Witch were a band that never seemed to realise their potential or take off in the same way as some of their peers & weren't well liked by the rock critics of the time(the band breaking up quite early on won't have helped either of course !!) - don't let that put you off getting hold of this record though.The title track remains a really well written,catchy bit of rock & I find there are some real gems across the piece - White Witch,Sweet Danger,Free Man & Baphomet (as one of the Non album tracks)In many ways it's standard NWOBHM fare but it's one period & one of the styles / genres of rock music that I grew up with & that I still retain affection for, so I love it.There's nothing flash,surprising or unexpected on this record, it is what it is. If you like the NWOBHM style (specifically this Angel Witch album has been described as the first Sabbath album played through a cement mixer) then you may well like this. Personally, I like to listen to this on train journey's before going to business meetings across the country. It helps me to worry less about the impending "challenge" & take the meetings a great deal less seriously - how about that ?
