They pull up and down easily. He has some junk in the trunk, so we often have to size up. Not the case with these, we ordered a 6 and they fit great in the waist/hips/butt. They fit just above the knee, so he will outgrow the length soon. I ordered the 7 just last week, and the fit is perfect and will definitely take up into fall. (We live in the south, so October may still be shorts weather!) The 7s aren't too big in the waist, but give me that extra little length. (The photo is him in a size 6). Based on the fit for my child, I don't think these would work for super-skinny kids.Color: These are a little darker than I would like. We tried probably 7 or 8 different brands and these were by far the darkest navy, sometimes appearing black. They'll work for our school and maybe fade with more washing.Feel/Look: These feel comfy and not too rigid. They look exactly like standard, button/zipper shorts, so we'll be buying them again!For sizing reference: we also tried the French Toast brand, and they were much too long/thin for our tastes. The 6 was too narrow for his hiney, but the 7 was soooo long - almost capri length.
