The ad is incorrect. I only ordered because I needed a 2 inch belt. Very disappointed. Thankfully, this belt is fully adjustable. For selecting a belt "length" in general, the rule of thumb is to take your pant size and go up one. So if you wear a 52, you would get the belt that is listed as 54". If you wear a 42, you would go for the belt that is listed as 44". **Q: if your waist measures 42 inches......what size belt to order? is the size given the actual length of belt, or the size of waist?** A: It is recommended that you order the next size up from your waist size.
