Having studied many online tutorials, learned how to open the case and prepped all the relevant tools before installing this, it made doing the job a lot easier. The item itself is excellent, and does exactly what it says it does. The HDD adapter fitted the Macs frame perfectly and was very sturdy in holding in the new SSD I put in it. All the screw holes lined up perfectly and it was an easy install. The Mac is now running like a new machine.Re-using the superdrive in the supplied caddy means my Mac loses no functionality. The caddy itself is plastic but for the price and what it does, I cant complain at all. As I am very careful with all my computer peripherals, this wont be an issue. I can imagine someone less careful may cause damage to the superdrive, if they mishandle it. All in all, for the money it is an excellent pair of products that have enabled my Mac to be like new again. VERY highly recommended ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Perfect *by F***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 August 2017* My 2011 MacBook Pro has a smallish Solid State Drive (250GB) which, whilst fast, always seems to be full and I have to resort to external drives. Having just USB 2 (not USB 3 on these old models) they are not very fast. I know I can attach a Thunderbolt drive (expensive) or a Firewire 800 drive (rare now) for better performance, but the ubiquitous nature and extremely low price of USB drives means these are the ones I usual go for.To solve this, I was thinking about replacing the existing small Solid State with either a 'standard' 2TB 5400rpm Hard Disk Drive (of which I had a spare one lying around) but this would mean a significant of performance hit. So I almost bought a 2TB hybrid drive instead which I thought would be a good compromise.Just before I did this I recalled that it was possible to replace the DVD drive in these older MacBooks with a hard drive caddy. I don't use the DVD drive much so this solution would mean I could put my existing 2TB Hard Disk Drive in the MacBook for documents, photos etc. and keep the existing Solid State Drive in place for the operating system. The best of both worlds - super fast boot times and apps but loads of built in space too - and this additional space would be controlled by the internal SATA III controller, which is a fast interface (especially when compare to the USB2 socket I used to attach drives to).The only downside would be I would have to buy an Apple Super Drive DVD recorder as, whilst only occasionally using the DVD, I do need it from time to time.Then I saw this kit on Amazon. For just £19.99 I have now installed the 2TB hard drive alongside my existing 250GB Solid State Drive, removed the optical DVD drive and installed that in the included external case - a.k.a. a free external super drive!Using a guide on iFixit.com the whole procedure took about 40 minutes. Even the required screw drivers and 'spludger' were included in this kit.I couldn't ask for more - absolutely delighted that for under a £20 I have significantly upgraded my 2011 MacBook Pro's storage, retained the high speed Solid State Drive and recycled the DVD drive which was removed in the process.One final advantage - now I have an external superdrive I can also use it on any new Mac in the future that doesn't have a DVD drive!If you are patient, quite handy with precision screw drivers and know a bit about IT and computers, then this is the perfect kit.Thanks to TheNatural2020 - this is great value!Finally it is a little sad that this sort of upgrade cannot be performed on the latest MacBook Pros - all bring well, my 2011 MacBook will live on for a while to come - the new ones, I expect will have a much shorter life span. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Great kit for the price *by C***S on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 July 2014* Great kit for the price. The caddy works fine and is well enough made, and DVD drive case is the only bit I'm not 100% happy with (it works well, but when the disk is ejected it catches on the plastic case at the front and gets sucked back in - I can hold the plastic out of the way with my finger to let it out though).The screwdrivers that come in the kit are surprisingly good! Some of the screws are VERY easy to ruin with a bad screwdriver, so this is very helpful.I used it to upgrade my 2011 macbook pro to dual SSD (I got the apple SSD, and added a crucial mx100 256GB). Helpful hint: there's an issue with some MacBooks, where they can't take a 6gb/s SATA3 drive in the optical bay (mine is one of these). I checked in System Profiler, and the Apple SSD is a 3GB/S drive.
