You cannot tell on first glance that it is vinyl...it seems more like cloth. I highly recommend the purchase of this beautiful tablecloth.I asked the vendor how to clean this....you can not throw it in the wash. You need to clean it each day with your sponge. Some foods will leave light stains if not caught quickly. Perhaps you could hand wash it, but a sponge works just as well. I have had this tablecloth for about 5 months and I have decided to order another one as by now there are a few stains and a couple of slight tears. For $16, I consider it replaceable after 5 mos.
