It's just big enough for pasta for 4 without us having to use our giant stock pot & strainer. We also use it for small batches of soup and chili when we aren't cooking for company or leftovers. AND...with the smaller size you can keep it with your other pots and pans (even sharing lids with some other All Clad pieces). With our larger stock pot / strainer we have to keep it in a high (out of the way) cupboard and it's a pain to get out. This is the "just right" size!! The steel is a tiny bit thinner than that of our regular All Clad kitchenware, but it WORKS GREAT. Note that the base is bottom of the pot is an applied disc that ABSOLUTELY IS INDUCTION COMPATIBLE. The heavy magnetic base is PERMANENTLY attached and is key with this set. The walls of the pot are not as thick as your normal All Clad pots (they're not "clad"), but who cares!?!?
