A lot of that depends on how it's feeling such as is it lathering up? or does it feel like it's not doing anything yet. I was surprised to find that this only took 2 applications. It lathered up on the first time. It's a moderate amount of lather, but that's preferred by me because it's easier to rinse. It has an earthy/herbal smell to it. I didn't really like it, but it's not a deal breaker for me. I followed this with conditioner. I have been very pleased with the results. My hair has been very soft and shiny. I typically buy drugstore friends or I will buy brand name brands when they are on sale. I really do like the shampoo, I'm not sure it'll be worth that amount of money but it did a great job cleaning my hair. My hair stay clean for longer than normal. It also did not strip it to feel too dry, I still feel nice and moisturized after I used conditioner. I liked the smell I wasn't too strong.
