I tried using the suction cups as well as the hooks to keep the sides of the liner up. I have a very nice and new SUV and its interior needs protection from the dogs when traveling. I looked carefully at this liner before buying it and read the reviews. I should have returned it immediately. However, I tried it out with poor success. One of my dogs got caught in the line that is supposed to hold the liner up. when it fell and he got tangled in it he panicked. The liner may be suitable for carrying non-movable items such as luggage, water toys, dirt, etc. However it is not good when carrying dogs that move around in the car causing the liner to not do what it is intended to do---that is, stay up..
