I spray them all as required to determine mites aswel as keep their feathers intact. At first my budgies did flinch. However after the second use they seemed to like it, also they were preening more often. I can't tell a difference in their feathers being more vibrant yet as I've only used it 4 times, however it does leave a nice lavender/tea tree like smell.
