The main target is chicken bones, but they do well on other stuff you might hesitate to tackle with ordinary scissors. Your fingers go through the hole in the lower handle and your palm grips the upper handle against a spring. This means that you don't need to use your thumb to make a cut and you can use the whole strength of your hand. The two halves come apart for cleaning, so you don't need to worry about grunge and corrosion hiding inside the joint. When you put them together they fit precisely, so no wobbles or gaps between the blades. The only downside is that the cutting edge is only at the forward end of the blades: if you open them wide to cut cardboard like you would with normal scissors nothing happens. This design makes sense for poultry bones, but you need to keep it in mind for other stuff. We had a pair of these for many years. Eventually the spring broke, so now we've bought another pair. The spring is the only reason I gave it 4 stars for sturdiness; its clearly the weakest point in the design. But don't let that put you off; these scissors will still give you years of good service. Review: Well made - I bought these as a present and they are really nicely made. The handles are coated in very grippy rubber and the lower section has a guard to stop your fingers slipping. The blades are really sharp and the two blade sections can be separated for cleaning. It also has a little lock to keep the blades together which is a nice touch, especially given how sharp they are. Update: After a year of use these are still going strong, I have personally used them now and they are the most comfortable pair of scissors I have ever used. I have large hands and most other scissors are slightly too small, but the oversized grips on these fit my hands. They also work well for things like dried meat strips for dogs, which are very difficult to cut with normal scissors. That said, I have had mine for several years and they are still sharp. **Q: is there a guarantee on this item?** A: I dont think there is best to consult the supplier. product is guarantee it self **Q: The spring does not work on my shears. Has anyone else had this problem?** A: I have used mine quite a bit and haven't had a problem but you do have to make sure that it's in the correct position. If you don't reassemble the shears correctly after they've been washed the spring doesn't work.
