I came upon it by a mix of accident and thinking about what I could do differently from what was clearly not working. The accident was finding a travel size of this, so I could add it to the pile of items to experiment with, without spending a lot. The thinking part was deciding I needed something that worked like a face cleanser - something with more some penetrant chemicals, plus some moisturizer along with the surfactants. Soaps just dried out my skin, and didn't get at the dirt that had already snuck in below the surface layer of skin. I discovered that using a hair conditioner first and then washing with soap was way more effective than soap alone and reduced the drying out. So I started to look for a product that did both steps in one. I settled on this one mostly because I liked how well it worked - and I wasn't put off by the scent . It also dissipates quite quickly. I seriously dislike hand washes that hang around so everything you touch and eat starts to taste like the stuff. I prefer unscented products for everything, but finding an unscented shampoo wasn't easy. The one I did find was an Avalon Organics product. It didn't work as well as this, dried out my skin, and had a slightly "off" smell which I disliked as much as I dislike a LOT of the fragrances in shampoos etc. But scent is a very personal preference thing, so there may be other shampoos of the "deep penetrating"/"moisturizing" kind that work as well as a hand/body cleanser that other people like the scent of more. Another plus: it's very concentrated: a little goes a long way, more than other shampoos/hand/body washes. I've now taken to dispensing some into a pump dispenser and diluting it a little with distilled water. Perfect. Review: Great for Very Dry Hair - I would highly recommend this product having tried many other conditioners which were specifically formulated for very dry hair. The thing is the other products either didn't work at all or only provided minor improvement! The Pantene Pro-V not only softened my hair but actually make it feel more hydrated and look much smoother after blow drying. Another plus is that it doesn't take a lot of product to saturate wet hair so it's economical to use which is always good. Using the Pantene has tamed many 'fuzzy' ends that always used to show no matter what I tried.....this product has virtually eliminated the 'fuzzies'.
