### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just-right balance of advice, facts and encouragement
*by S***E on 27 May 2011*

This is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL reading for Dads-to-be. I can't emphasise it enough really. Even if you're somehow super-confident that you're going to be the world's best Dad, this will still be useful, and if like me you are bricking it somewhat, this book is definitely worth it.In a very chatty, casual, knowing way, Rob Kemp goes through what you'll need to know as a normal Dad through the nine months of pregnancy and the first six weeks after birth. It's straightforward, simple, and backed up with just the right amount of facts and figures to make it knowledgeable without being too dry or dull. After an initially quite 'blokey' introduction which put me off a little, it settles down into a nice style which is like getting good advice from a friend. It covers an awful lot of subjects, ranging from the practical (buying a new car? buying a pram? moving house?) to the emotional (how's she feeling? what do you do about the depression? can you help?), all in reasonable detail.Unlike a couple of other father-to-be books I've already read, this book is almost entirely positive. While it doesn't shy away from the occasional sensitive subject (SIDS, risks of miscarriage etc.), and it's very frank about how there will be an awful lot of poo and bad smells and that the birth will not be pretty, it still really supports the whole feel-good factor of how exciting and unbelievably good it's all going to be. It's got just the right level of encouragement. It's broken down into four-week blocks, giving you a rough guide to what you might think about doing in each month. Even if like us you're already five months in, it's still worth reading from the beginning, and reading ahead too. This book was just what I needed and hopefully it'll be right for you too.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worth Buying
*by F***K on 22 October 2012*

I bought this for my husband after looking through all of the reviews on Amazon and also scouring the pregnancy forums online. There are SO few books for fathers-to-be and this appeared to have all the right information delivered in a funny and frank way. He's now about 2/3 of the way through it and has been laughing his head off. He's also caught me completely by surprise by actually knowing a bit more about certain stages of pregnancy than I do. I complained about a particular ache recently (I'm 7 months) and he immediately said (all matter-of-a-fact), 'well that's to be expected now we're in the third trimester, it's caused by this, this and that'. I was shocked but in a good way. I told him I was writing this review and asked him what he thinks of the book and he says it's like having a conversation with a good friend who is also a dad; informative without being so laden with medical info that it becomes boring and masculine without being overly bloke-y. I feel like he feels part of a special 'dads-to-be' club when he reads it. If this allows him to gain insight into just a little of what I'm going through, and do so in a way that he feels comfortable with, then it's TOTALLY worth the £ - and then some.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A good buy for a first tine Dad.

Reader friendly and infomative for a nervous dad. It is the first book he showed interest in reading.
