Bromide works best in hot water spas and dose not break down as fast chlorine. My husband seems to like this better than the other method of balancing all of the chemicals. New filter, new water, new chemical method. No issues since. The smell is normal. Chemical smells of pool products. As far as cost, I think the longevity of the minerals makes it worth it. The bromine went a little faster than I expected.
