This particular book has a lot of very pretty dress and blouse patterns, although they are almost all short sleeves or sleeveless. There is a nice bolero pattern, though. It's worth getting just for the two bubble dresses. The pattern sheets are typical Japanese pattern sheets where you have to find your piece on the overlapping diagrams and trace it out, adding a seam allowance. A good acrylic quilting ruler and/or a seam gauge ruler makes this pretty easy to do. Other books try to cram the entire book's worth of patterns on one double-sided sheet. This one has three double sided sheets in a convenient paper envelope on the inside of the back cover, so the patterns are a lot more spaced out and easy to find. The sides of these sheets are labeled "Pattern sheet 1 - 6" and each one has a guide that lists exactly which pieces are on which side, so this also helps speed along the process. If Japanese sewing books' pattern tracing makes you nervous, this is a good one to begin with. Once I got the hang of pattern tracing, I actually found this method easier than dealing with either taped together PDF patterns or flimsy tissue paper ones, and I like that I can easily change the seam allowance or hems if I want to. The diagrams are simple and easy to follow with just a little sewing experience. If you need more instructions, the same author has come out with another book going into much more detail, but I am probably about an advanced beginner and have no problem following the patterns. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Cute and classic patterns! *by F***5 on Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2013* Recently, I've been starting to sew for my kids, and something I love about Japanese sewing books is the cute, classic and simple designs they contain. This book is no exception! It has a great collection of patterns that are super-cute, but not difficult to sew, and you can't beat the price (seriously, 24 patterns for the price of this one book?! Fabulous!) These are typical Japanese sewing patterns (i.e. a lot of patterns per sheet, and seam allowances need to be added after the patterns are traced out), but there are several ways to accomplish this...if you don't like to trace stuff (i.e. to preserve the original pattern sheets), you could just take it somewhere and have the pattern sheets copied, add some seam allowances, and then cut out what you want from your copies. If you don't mind tracing patterns, an easy way to make a 'light box' so that you can clearly see what you're tracing is to flip a clear plastic under-bed storage box upside down over a light (flashlight, etc.), put the pattern sheet on top (i.e. the bottom side of the box), and trace away... just some ideas to make this task a little easier =) Long story short, as a mom who wants cute and easy patterns to sew for her kids, for a reasonable price, I highly recommend this book! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Happy with the pattern variety! *by T***. on Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2016* I am a fan of Japanese pattern books. That means I am used to tracing and adding seam allowance, so that part does not turn me off. In fact, this set of patterns is printed on 3 separate sheets so it's actually easier to see/trace because there are fewer patterns on each sheet. I have made one thing so far, dress A, and it is pretty adorable. There are several other dresses that I am excited to make too, but I find some of the patterns a little too basic/home-made looking (namely the top/shorts sets). I also think they duplicate patterns, so it doesn't feel like you have 24 distinct ones because some tops are basically a shorter version of a dress. That said, this is a nice addition to my pattern book library.
