I was planning on buying the Thrunite tn12, but at Β£60 this was not affordable at this time, however this atactical a1 is every bit as well made.The cross section of light output modes is perfect for all your edc needs, and the fact that the rechargeable battery is included along with spare o rings, is exceptional value for money.Get one before they realise that they are practically giving these away. You won't get a better torch for the money.Also delivery was quick, just a couple of days.In short this is a bargain.UPDATE: Having now used this for a few weeks, it is every bit as good as I was expecting. I do see that now some other people have reviewed this item and are complaining about mode levels and the batteries. All I would say on this is... read the description! It tells you what they are, and don't leave a negative review because they weren't what you wanted.I stand by my initial assessment... This torch is excellent value. ### ⭐⭐ why now only 2 stars? *by A***I on 17 February 2017* Because every day I see the Atactical value advantage diminish.Yet again I need to point out that the Amazon star system is based on personal preference not directly a measure of quality. For sure this flashlight will likely suit a "first 18650" purchaser. I have several already and I soon I realised I preferred my Thrunite TN12 (2016). BTW the Amazon review system encourages comparison. This is my personal review (preference) and nobody should tell me what my personal preference should be.I already have the very similar Thrunite TN12 (2016) and couldn't resist getting the A1 as a backup such is its fantastic value for money. Actually I might make the TN12 the backup as its more expensive to lose. First things first I don't like charging ports on my flashlights. I worry about relying on a rubber bung for waterproofing. The TN12 doesn't feature a charging port (I use an external charger) and neither does the A1. However the A1 comes with a cunning 18650 battery which incorporates a micro USB charging port. Can't wait for a TC10 without a charging port or better an Atactical TC10 lookalike without a charging port.Comparing the A1 and TN12, Thrunite has not entirely given away all their crown jewels, the A1 doesn't feature Firefly but instead a 10 lumens minimum and the peak output is 550 lumens for the A1 against 1100 lumens for the TN12. But more than adequate for most purposes. Comparing the A1's 550 lumen setting with the TN12's 435 lumens the A1 has a smaller and brighter hot-spot.There is one very subtle change to the UI which users will either love or hate. With the TN12 each click of the side-switch cycles the output from the memorised last used setting through to Turbo and then back to Firefly. With the A1 fast clicks (<2s) from On cycles the output in the same way, plus a (High) SOS mode beyond steady High. Personally I hate SOS mode in a flashlight unless well hidden. But a slow click (after >2s) always returns the output to low from any output. Takes a bit of getting used to and is sometimes not what is wanted operationally though its an easier way of getting back to minimum output which has different advantages. Users will need to make up their own minds on this subtle difference.I originally gave this 4 stars, partly through "buy in" to what Atactical were doing on value. I can live with an urban EDC flashlight not doing "Firefly". I can live with the A1's 10 lumens minimum. But looking at the soon to be available A1S, that has a 24 lumen minimum, that's way too bright for a minimum.Latest update:Have become used to 18650 flashlights also working with 2xCR123As, potentially a useful standby power source. The A1's working voltage maximum is 4.2V. This implies that CR123As can't be used. The spec is silent on CR123A so I conclude they can't be used.I can now see that the Thrunite TN12 (2016) functionality (Firefly, CR123A, choice of NW or CW and long established UI) is (for me) worth the extra cost and its not that much extra for anybody who already has 18650 and charging. An even smaller differential when the A1S (the true high output comparison) ships on 10 March. I have doubts about what Atactical is doing. However, it does come nicely packaged, not that it helps.
