They (Stanley) say they are virtually indestructible. but I don't want to put it to the test, I'd say you get a better finish and and don't blunt your chisels as easily if you use a mallet. The best mallet going is one made in the USA called a wood is good mallet but they are expensive, they appear on eBay occasionally for a reasonable price. **Q: Does anyone know what grit is on the oilstone, there are 2 sides to it and can't find the information.** A: The rougher side is for grinding and smoother side for sharpening and honing. **Q: What grits does the sharpening stone have?** A: Not 100% but they are weak.
