Review: Perfect substrate — clean, natural and easy to use! - I recently bought the Komodo Aspen Bed Terrain (12 Litre) for my reptile enclosure and I’m really impressed. The aspen shavings are clean and dust-free straight out of the bag, and they provide great coverage for burrowing and natural behavior. It’s absorbent without getting smelly, which makes spot-cleaning and full changes a lot easier. My reptile seems very comfortable on it, and it doesn’t hold too much moisture or clump like some other substrates I’ve tried. Packaging was good and the 12 L size is generous for the price. Overall — high quality, great value and definitely one I’ll keep buying. Highly recommended!

**Q: Is it ok for parrotlets to use for nesting**
A: Hi,
Komodo Aspen bedding is a excellent ground cover for many reptile species, mammals and birds. It is a very fine particle wood bedding that is good at absorbing liquid.  We are not experts in the humidity and other requirements that nesting parrotlets require so we are unable to give advice on it's use in a nest box. My person experience would suggest that a coarser wood bedding may be more appropriate but we would suggest you contact an experienced breeder for more advice.

**Q: Do i lay this straight into the viv, or do i need to put something like a reptile carpet or newspaper down first?**
A: Lay straight into viv.. it thick enough.

**Q: Is this ok for syrian hamsters**
A: Hi, I use it for my own syrian as an additional bedding to his Kaytee Clean and Cosy for enrichment and he likes it! It’s the same as Aspen marketed for hamsters, just a little smaller pieces. Unlike regular pine shavings which can in the long term cause respiratory issues in hamsters due to the fact that it’s a dusty wood, Aspen is dust free. You will feel it when you run your hands through the bedding bag and it won’t feel like something is still on there when you pull it out.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best for leopard tortoise

I have used this bedding for a few years for my leopard tortoise now and safe to say it’s the best I’ve found. It doesn’t cause digestive issues if he accidentally consumes any of it which is the biggest perk. He is also able to bury himself in it when he wants to. The bedding is reasonably absorbant but you will need quite a thick layer maybe 1-2 inches to ensure any urine or water spills don’t reach the enclosure’s base. The only negative is that it is quite dusty, safe to say I definitely have a sneezing fit when I first empty the bag! It does also give my tortoise some mildly irritated eyes for a couple of days when I change it, but rinsing with water helps alleviate that easily. Whilst it is quite pricey, especially with needing at least two bags each time for my table’s size. It is worth it for the overall quality, comfort and health of my tortoise.
