You never get enough lube, plus it sticks on your car a waxy coating (which you probably don't want, given clay mitting it is trying to get everything off it, and you prob use your own wax anyway, afterwards. 2) I first washed the car using a decent amount of their(G3) 'body prep' shampoo. Which is 'supposed' to get rid of all wax coating on the car, 'stripping it down'. Of course I assume you do the two bucket (or more) method etc3) I then 'wash' it again, another bucket with the body prep shampoo in it, but kind of simultaneously using the normal wash mitt that I use when normally washing the car (and you've just used in step 2s above), and following immediately behind it using the clay mitt. YOu need to use LOADS of shampooed water on both your normal wash mitt and the clay mitt. Also, go on the side of caution and don't press hard at all with the clay mitt. Kind of micro pressure it a few times horizonatally with each pass. It's essential you use LOADS of lube, as stated, so you don't inflict scratches on your car. Have your mitt virtually swimming on shampooed water. Think 'I cannot have too much lube as I'm doing it' and you'll be fine.If you need anymore clarification, feel free to ask again **Q: Is it proper for a novice user? I have never used clay bar or clay mitt before...Is it scratch safe? Thank you** A: Well, I'm a complete novice in that up till I got my new car (well, old car) I used to let the rain wash it. I needed to look after this one with a bit more care and someone told me that it needs to be clayed to get rid of impurities. The actual bars looked too hard so bought this mitt never having used anything before and it was soo easy to use, after a few goes on the paintwork you get into a rhythm and the results are amazing, I was really impressed. Now I think its probably one of my best purchases. Don't think ill bother going to a bar, this does a perfectly good job on its own. Brilliant. *by J***S on 26 April 2018* Overview: A very valid alternative to clay bars Disclaimer: I don’t know what I’m doing, I really don’t! I’m not a professional detailer, more a have a go hero. I’ve used a few things, gotten better at the basics. Hopefully if you don’t know what you’re doing either, then this review helps! Basics: So this is for replacing clay bars. If you don’t know what they, or indeed this is for - basically after washing your car there is still all sorts of rubbish and dirt on the car itself. Softly run your hand over the bonnet - that slight scratchy rough feeling is things like tar deposits that get flung up from the road. “Claying” the car will remove those and get the car lovely and smooth - especially important if your going to polish it. Design: So having used a clay bar before, this has the following benefits: • Its extremely hard to drop • About the same - or slightly easier to store • It won’t go “off” or hard unlike clay. • It is remarkably simple to clean contaminate off the glove and have it fresh for re-use. With clay, you can fold it over and over - but eventually you need to bin it. Use: Really simple. Again, if you haven’t flayed a car before then the secret is lots and lots of lubricant. Don’t waste money, Normal dish soap (as the yanks call it) or fairy washing up liquid mixed in a fairly strong concentration sprayed liberally on the surface is fine. Have lots there and just wipe in straight lines gently with little pressure. You can feel/hear when its gone smooth. And then, wipe dry and marvel at the difference. Longevity: This has already lasted a very very long time before I was in a position to use it. We’re talking way over a year. I’ve now used it for a few sections of the car, so not heavy use by any stretch but it seems that it should last well. However, if it does fall apart in a short period then as always I will update this review. Finally, 4 stars not 5? This is brilliant. Its just I havent used it heavily yet to give it full marks.
