## Description

How Will You Measure Your Life? : Clayton Christensen, James Allworth, Karen Dillon: desertcart.in: Books

Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A Rare Book That Speaks to Both Your Head and Your Heart - Clayton Christensen’s How Will You Measure Your Life? is a quiet masterpiece—a book that doesn’t shout with grand theories but instead whispers profound truths that stay with you long after you’ve turned the last page. Rooted in the world of business and strategy, but ultimately a deeply human book, Christensen uses management principles not just to explain corporate success, but to unlock the deeper patterns behind a fulfilling life. Drawing from his experience as a Harvard Business School professor and as someone who faced life-threatening illness, this book is a powerful blend of intellect, humility, and soul. The genius of the book lies in its simplicity. Christensen takes what are typically thought of as “corporate frameworks”—like resource allocation, marginal costs, and deliberate vs. emergent strategy—and applies them to our most personal decisions: how we build relationships, how we raise our children, how we choose integrity over expedience, and how we define success on our own terms. He invites us to examine the often invisible choices we make every day, and the long-term trajectory they silently set us on. One of the most striking ideas is his assertion that “the strategy of your life is not what you say it is, but where you actually spend your time, energy, and resources.” That hits hard. It forces reflection—not just on what we claim to value, but on how our actions align with (or diverge from) those values. In that sense, the book becomes a mirror. And not always a comfortable one. What makes this book especially powerful is that it doesn’t offer prescriptions—it offers principles. You don’t walk away with a checklist; you walk away with a lens through which to see your life more clearly. It’s part philosophy, part self-inquiry, and part gentle challenge to be more intentional in all aspects of living. It’s not a fast read, not because it’s dense, but because it makes you pause. And those pauses are where the real growth happens. This is the kind of book that should be read slowly, reflected on deeply, and returned to often—especially in moments of transition, confusion, or ambition. For anyone who has ever chased success and found themselves wondering “What now?”—this book is a wise, compassionate guide back to what truly matters. A modern classic. Essential reading for anyone who wants to succeed in life without losing their soul.
Review: A Candid Sharing on living a clean life. - This is the second book of Clayton Christensen, besides the classic Innovators Dilemma, i have read. Authors are very candid about discussing the lessons we can pick up from their personal life i.e. Clayton and from Corporate success and failure. Especially the narration when moves towards kids and how they are struggling to have skills which will help them to keep fighting today's time is indeed fair. Initially the book goes very smoothly as if you are drinking a glass of water. Its after few pages the depth increases and makes us realize that this is work of Clayton Christensen. This book is must read by youngsters who are in the threshold of dilemma as to what they have to do in this highly materialistic driven world. As a freshly minted graduate from business school, tendency to get carried away by the money that flows in, is very enticing for the best of men to compromise with ethics. It is at this time 100% commitment to ethics and not 98% plays very important lesson for an individual. Worth reading and filled with gems for any reader. Prof. Clayton thank you very much. Some where i feel the importance of staying out of jail was not much touched upon. Example of Enron Chief and Barings Bank - Nick was an apt one. This chapter on staying out of jail is more important. Here jail represents not only staying behinds bars but it is about ensuring that we do not fall in front of our loved ones and self.
