They are wide enough for thicker smoothies. The only thing I don't like, and this is for all straws, is that you can taste/smell a bit of plastic on your first sip. But to be fair, I have metal straws, and they taste like metal to me on first sip. I'm not keen on straws unless I have to, for this reason.
