Our vet says to inspect the bone regularly and cut off any tags that might come loose as they can get stuck in the dog's belly and cause a blockage. However, clearly the same, if not greater, risk exists with wood or even linoleum which our beagle has been chewing for months. I won't say the introduction of one of these bones eliminated it completely, but in the last few weeks since she has had it, she seems to prefer chewing the bone to furniture or flooring 90% of the time. Well worth it. ### ⭐ These smell like a dead decomposing animal. Do not buy!!! *by I***N on Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2018* These had a strange smell right out of the package. After my dog chewed on one for awhile, the rawhide smelled like a dead, decaying animal and had the whole house smelling bad. There were also 4-5 flakes of the rawhide laying around about the size of a half dollar. My dog only chewed on the one end for a while, then the smell was so bad that I took it away from her and threw it and the other 2 unused bones in the trash. Lesson learned, I'll only buy USA made rawhide, even at the more expensive price. I only allow my dog to chew rawhide bones while she is in the house and supervised. After a half hour or so, I take the bone away and then give it back to her the next night or maybe not for a few days. It is sort of like a treat and she looks forward to them. I can imagine her trying to swallow the flakes that came off of the one end she chewed on and maybe choking on them. She has had a lot of rawhide bones in her life but I have never seen one with pieces that fell off like these or smelled as bad as these Brazilian ones. ### ⭐ My dog has been fine since. After the package arrived, I saw that these raw hide bones were made in Brazil and Bolivia. I was skeptical because I don't know how effective quality control is in other countries. The morning my dog started chewing these bones he had an allergic reaction. The side of his face by his mouth swelled up to the size of a soft ball in a matter of minutes. I had to make an emergency visit to the vet. The vet confirmed my dog was having an allergic reaction and gave him three kinds of medication. The vet said my dog was most likely exposed to the allergen within one hour of the vet visit. There was nothing different in my dog's routine that morning and my dog did not eat anything different than he usually does. The only new variable was these bones. I ended up throwing out the package. My dog has been fine since.
