One of the better piano methods I've reviewed and used

*by K***N on Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2011*

This method is not for the child who wants coloured pictures on every page. It's strengths are that it introduces all of the key signatures very early on so that students are comfortable with them early. This also avoids the tendency to start associating certain keys and notes with certain fingers which happens in methods that spend a lot of time in one had position at the beginning. I find that it is important to include at least some of the accompanying books, particularly the technic book because they help the student learn the twelve major five finger patterns early on as well as the key signatures, etc. In addition, it introduces transposing right away, so that students are able to play any piece in any of the five finger positions. The largest interval used in this book is a third; naturally some thing have to be limited in every beginner method. However, it does introduce pieces where each hand plays over 6 notes rather than just 5, etc. I am not totally sold yet on the first part where boxes are used to indroduce direction, but I do like it better than methods that use up stems for the RH and down stems for the LH, since I find that some students struggle with that when they move to the grand staff and are introduced to those stem rules. It introduces very few ledger lines, but does do middle C as well as the first treble staff A with a ledger line and the first bass E with one.I have not yet used this with a very young beginner, but think that it could work for some. Frankly, I don't think that there is any method that works well for every single young beginner as is, and I've tried quite a few; you need to augment or use different things. I far prefer this method to Alfred's, Bastien and John Thompson. Noona has many good things in some of their supporting books, and a few things not found here that I borrow from with this book, but that book still has the problem of too much time in C position for beginners who don't move quickly.I would put this in my top picks, but as I said, I haven't found anything I'd use for every beginner.

    Love the Pace Series

*by S***M on Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2014*

Pace Method is a wonderful, an efficient method, teaching the beginner to imitate (follow patterns) and learn how to play in every key, right from the beginning. By the end of the first book the beginner plays in every key and is learning to play in minor keys. It wastes less time and develops competency earlier then other methods. The beginner is not be intimidated by sharps or flats, and will be able to transpose right from the beginning. If used with the creative music book, they are learning to write music before they are half way through the book, which helps them understand and track better with this method. The books encourage you to work on page 10, for instance - in each book, so that they are getting the concept before moving on to the next page.

*by S***S on Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2014*

Here is the basic text that revolutionizes piano teaching. Rather than leaving the beginner to climb the arbitrary middle c ladder of naming notes and pushing keys, this conceptual approach shows the beginner how music "works" leading one to play as easily in the key of F# as in the key of C. The student gains "ears that see" and "eyes that hear" as they write what they hear and sing without playing the written score. Every student improvises, composes and transposes with ease at every level. You will dash right off to buy Books II!Book I was a revelation even after my Bachelor of Music Degree as a piano major! I learned more in 4 of Pace's 6 levels than I did at the University.
