I just wanted a really simple auto switch to swap between my Roku 2XS and My Oppo Blu-Ray player while selecting the HDMI Blu-Ray port on my set.For this purpose the switch works great, it allowed me to use my main HDMI port for these 2 devices never having to switch on my HTR or my tv, it is now completely automatic. Now as many of you probably know the Roku is always on and in standby mode, so you have to give one device priority over it. I plugged the Roku into port 2 on the box and then ran my Oppo on port 1, ran the Output of the StarTech to my HTR and the HTR back to my Plasma Set this switch works fantastic I see no loss in signal quality, picture or sound in any way, no static, no lines, it yields a perfect picture.I must say I am very happy with the product overall, my only gripe is with what most of these after market device manufactures are guilty of, and thats using these insanely bright leds ... I ask all manufacturers who do this to stop using them, there is no need period, if i wanted a night light I would have bought one. This like all others uses leds that will light up the area where the unit is placed, the one red led is not too bad but the 2 blue leds are way too bright, so Im docking a star for that as I want to see nice dim green leds used or dim blue leds if they must use blue.As many have done to prevent lighting up the area where the unit is placed I too have placed black electrical tape over the leds. I really shouldn't have to do that, if the companies would just listen to everyone else and use dim leds take Roku as a great example they use a small classy dim white led that is non obtrusive, and does not light up the room but you can still tell if the unit is on. So in closing to all manufactures of small devices who use bright leds I say please don't do it we don't need or like it please follow Roku's lead and use classy dim leds.Other then that this unit works as it should and smoothly auto switches between my Roku and My Oppo. While I have not had the unit for very long, I can't really say much about how long it will last but my hope is it will last a long time because the overall build quality seems quite good, they even throw in a small 6" HDMI cable to hook direct to the back of your set, what more can you ask for, over all highly recommended. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars May not work with Vampire Devices *by M***F on Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2017* This was purchased for a client Dec '14. Worked fine until last month when auto-switching stopped. Manual switch still works.PLEASE NOTE: I believe the auto-switching loss is due to new equipment installed since originally purchased. Originally this unit was installed with a regular DVD player and an HD DVR box from Comcast (non-MOCA).The auto-switching first stopped when the DVD was replace by a Blu-Ray with wireless. Powering off the BR player did not auto-switch, but unplugging it did. Went through system settings on BR player and disabled any background power settings, including a settings that kept the WiFi module active on power down. No luck. Unplugging the BR Player did cause the auto-switch kick in. This told me that the BR player was still sending an electrical signal even with all power settings turned off.Second change in auto-switch not working was the upgrade to a Comcast X1 box. This one in MOCA and once again, turning off the box still sent live signals to the Startech unit.I checked both the BR and X1 box, as well as TV to make sure no CEC settings were turned off (another source of power being maintained in a "powered off" state). This did not seem to help either.One star off for insanely bright blue LEDs.One star off since the expected function of this does not work with more complicated devices. Most users may not be aware of all the complexities of inter-connected units and, as advertised the expectation is that it works with all HDMI devices.tldr; - Works fine for older HDMI devices that do not have any phantom power. May not work with newer devices that have background power always on, despite any settings you may be able to adjust. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars It works prety well *by D***F on Reviewed in the United States on January 21, 2014* Having had other switches in the past that had auto switching without a remote and they worked great. However after a couple of years the auto switching stopped working and had to be manually switched. Which is a real pain when the switch is behind the TV or inside an entertainment center. I purchased this switch because it can auto change to the port you are using (mostly) can be manually controlled and has a remote. Using the switch for 5 weeks and it has been used quite a bit. It gets 4 starts for the following.The remote seems a little fragile but should be ok for normal use. It probably won't stand up to rough use. It will auto switch to some devices for example a blue ray/dvd player. The fast start up & HDMI control was turned off on the blue ray and DVD and it still switches automatically. It has been tested on a Panasonic and Sony. It didn't auto switch to my cablebox (Motorola) or WDTV or the WDTV hub. It may be the version of HDMI that the device uses. The TV is a 9 year old Panasonic plasma with only 1 HDMI port. The blue ray and dvd players were disconnected and the port still didn't automatically switchSince the switch doesn't automatically switch for 2 of the 3 devices connected. You can use the remote that comes with it or program it to a universal remote like a harmony one. That was tested and it works great. So the remote was programmed to automatically switch to the port number when watching the TV with the cable box or wdtv.
