## Overview

Space Balls are precision-engineered black resin spacers designed to center raised panel cabinet doors while absorbing expansion and contraction. Each 1/4 inch diameter ball compresses softly to prevent rattling and glue joint cracking, ensuring a quiet, durable, and professional finish. Sold in packs of 100, these modern spacers are trusted by pros to deliver flawless cabinet assembly every time.

## Description

These Raised Panel Cabinet Door Spacers automatically center panels in the assembling process and expand and contract as the panel does, helping eliminate panel rattle and the cracking of glue joints. They fit snug, but not too tight, by compressing one-half the diameter of the ball. You can use 8-10 Space Balls per door and the total quantity in this package is 100. Review: Easy Raised Door Panel Expansion/Rattle-Stop Solution - These spacer balls worked quite well while doing a number of shaker-style raised panel cabinet doors. The operative thing to note is that you have about 1/16 inch of "soft" compression before the ball becomes very stiff. As is commonly known rubber (or synthetic in this case?) has a pronounced nonlinear spring rate -- or in other terms, it gets harder the more you compress it (...spring rate increases with displacement). Thus, accounting for the nominal 1/4 inch ball diameter it's simple math to calculate the maximum engagement of your raised panel edges into your door frame dados. I did 1/16 inch of total compression (or interference fit) accounting for a spacer ball(s) on each opposite edge of the panel -- so far nothing has exploded! Although a minor expense the balls seem a bit pricey, but all were uniformly formed (no discards) and the 100 count was right.
Review: Sounds like a Mel Brooks movie. - The rubber spacers work very well in keeping a door panel centered and quiet. Keeps a loose fitting panel centered in styles a rails and from making a racket when closed.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Sorry, but I simply can't visualize how these balls are used or mounted.**
A: Hello, when making cabinet doors or drawer fronts, you cut and rout your 2 stiles and your 2 rails. In each of the stiles and rails, you will have a rabitted groove into which you will be sliding the center panel of your doors or drawer fronts. Before you slide the center panel into this groove, you insert a number (2, or 3 or 4 or whatever is appropriate) of the space balls into this groove, and jam them in with a putty knife. Then when you insert your center panels, you will receive the following benefits. 1. Because you made your panels smaller than the allowable space in the groove, so that the panels will expand and contract with humidity, it will allow room for the panels to swell and shrink without anyone noticing. 2. Again, because you made the panels smaller, it will give you a nice tight fit, eliminating rattling. I hope this helps. I have used them in making drawer fronts and cabinet doors and am super pleased with how they work.

**Q: Seems like it should be covered in the item description... What size are these? Seriously.**
A: They are slightly less than 1/4" in diameter. They are soft and compress in the slot on the door frame and do a good of stabilizing the door panels.

**Q: Would they also work in drawers to hold the bottoms in the grooves? I envision glueing one edge and using spaceballs on the other three sides grooves**
A: I can see no reason that would work perfectly. I usually let the drawer bottoms float in the grooves, but the space balls would help keep the bottom tight and still allow it to expand/contract. You shouldn't have to glue any edge as that would restrict the wood movement.

**Q: Would these be used for 1/4” mid panel?**
A: They are used to let wood expand and contract with moisture and temperature so my guess would be yes

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pricy for what they are. But they do work.
*by M***Y on February 27, 2023*

I used these to space out some flat panels in some shaker doors that I made. They work fine but for what they are, little rubber balls, they are pricy as hell. Somebody saw a niche and filled it and are profitting handsomely from this product. The same could be accomplished with some small cut up pieces of silicone tubing if one was so inclined to do. You're really paying for the convenience of not having to fuss with some other method of accomplishing the same thing.
