It actually mounts on it's own pivot knob, so it sits away from your main mirror. I've got it on my new Explorer Platinum, and I had to remove it and use the second one to mount it further down on the mirror. Otherwise it took up too much real-estate. I used the round kind for 30 years, and I'm not convinced that these are one bit better.Update: Well I just went through a car wash and it stayed on, so that's good news. I think I'll go back to the simple round one though. I religiously used them on my squad car for many years (I'm long retired now) and I can't count how many times it helped me navigatethrough traffic on the reds and stay out of accidents. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars Too small and not convex enough *by C***Y on Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2019* I installed these on my 2013 Toyota Tacoma and I found the viewing area to be too small to be useful. Also, they were not convex enough to actually extend my view enough to the sides. They were also not convex enough to see the ground for things like parking lot lines or curbs.
