I have settled on a Smart-Things Hub and Zigbee / Z-Wave. As a first step I choose the inovelli plugin dimmers in no small part due to several online reviews talking up the merits of these little plugin devices. I'm happy to report my experiences thus far have also been extremely good. After approximately two weeks of use and a bunch of user tests to find faults I happy to report I've not found any failures. The devices connect to the network quickly when power is applied, The device stays reliably connected to the network and hub. Response time is very good, within 1-2 seconds. Build quality is good and I like the small form factor. The support software likewise is good and I've had no problems getting the device working in SmartThings and when combined with my Echo Dot and Alexa, I  Z-Wave Dimming Plug w/Built-in Repeater (Range Extender) | Smart Dimmer Module (Single Smart Outlet) That Works with SmartThings, Wink, Vera & more (UL Listed, Zwave Plus Cert) | Inovelli have the ability to adjust the lights from off to 100% in whatever increment I choose to use 10% 25 50 66 75 80 90 100%. I plan to do some Home Automation and Alexa programming so finding good devices to work with is essential. Price vs. features vs. function-wise these are some of THE best dimmers available at least from where I stand today.inovelli hails from Kalamazoo and they have a good product! I plan to buy more and to expand my lineup to do much more Z-Wave automation, lights, entertainment, security. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good range, durability, and EXCELLENT support! *by H***N on Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2018* I have gotten two of these, and I *love* them. First off, Inovelli support is *amazing* (as mentioned in other reviews). I sent them a question on a Saturday night about why I had three devices show up on my Wink 2 Hub after I installed this, and an hour later I had an *actual answer* (it appears to be a Wink problem Wink told them would be fixed in a soon to be release). It is reliable, easy to use, and easy to hang. The button is easy to press, and whether it lights up or not is configurable. It would be seriously hard for me to ask for a better product (ok, maybe the really short cord could be longer - I had to buy an extension cord). I have no doubts as to the durability and reliability of this product.I had a bit of a problem with the placement of this, as it is basically surrounded by stone, and the signal then has to go through several other materials to get to the hub (~22ft away). The overpriced GE plug I bought was frustrating to use and didn't seem to have much range. I did end up getting a repeater in an outdoor z-wave light bulb to help this out, but it appears to have a better range than than the GE plug. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good device once included... read details for more *by C***O on Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2017* 'Tis the season, and this year the house had more outdoor decorations than in years past. I already have some older GE 12720s and some newer GE 14284s - the main gripe on the 12720s is just the range, which the 14284s address pretty well. Since the Inovelli controls two chains and is a Z-Wave Plus device, I figured it would have range similar to the 14284 with twice the control capability while only costing 50% more.EnrollementI'm not sure that my experience will be representative, but I had a huge problem including the Inovelli on my Hometroller Zee S2. While the button-less include/exclude is a nice feature of Z-Wave Plus, it took forever to get the device included. I ended up with several partial includes, which had to be cleaned up with excludes. It really didn't matter if it was secure or non-secure... it would usually time out on retrieving the associations. After interface resets, reboots, and finally putting the Inovelli about 3 inches away from the S2, I was finally able to get the device included (with all 3 of the children created). Again, YMMV, but I've NEVER had this much difficulty with any other Z-Wave device (and I have 150+ nodes).The good:When included on your network, the outlet switching works as it should. I didn't have any need for the heat notification, but I guess it could be used to indirectly detect an overcurrent issue (though I'd prefer power monitoring for that). It's also a repeater, which is nice.The less good/bad:I would imagine that most Z-Wave meshes are primarily built in the contained living space, so range is a big deal with a device like this. While I don't have a great way to measure range, I tried to do a comparative analysis with a 14284 (since it should be apples to apples). I placed each device placed in the same location (not at the same time) and fully optimized on the network. I looked at the route speeds (for routes travelling through the devices) and reported neighbors. By distance, it looked like the Inovelli seemed to have about 20% less range. I could be wrong, but I don't think there's any variation in the radio/antenna for devices with the same version (4.05, in this case). Since signal drops with the square of distance, it would seem that there's some pretty significant (but not massive) interference or attenuation going on with the Inovelli.ConclusionThere really aren't that many outdoor-capable Z-Wave Plus devices. The Inovelli isn't perfect, but it has unique functionality (2 independently controlled outlets), and it's priced well. Considering my difficulties including the device on my network, it's possible that I have a defective (but still somewhat functioning) unit.
