I am virtually certain that Neil Young did not approve this release. This appears to be a solo acoustic performance with Neil playing guitar and occasional organ. Recording length is 39:33. Amazon's product description is taken directly from the CD packaging and those 3 sentences are the only information provided. No info regarding venue. The CD doesn't give ANY information regarding date or specific location other than "a local radio station." Amazon says this was recorded in 1991, but the CD does not give any date. Neil plays Harvest Moon which was not released until 1992. Does anyone know if he was playing it in 1991?Now for the recording quality; I would be shocked if this was recorded for a radio station, unless radio stations have started sending audience members to record concerts! From the opening few seconds, it was pretty clear that this is an audience recorded bootleg. Clapping and other audience sounds between (and sometimes during) the songs overwhelm the microphone and drown out the other sounds and the overall ambiance of the recording just makes it obvious that an audience member recorded this performance. In addition, the sound level briefly fades to zero between every song, presumably to hide audience chatter. XXL media, the company that released this, is also responsible for a recent Yes DVD that was a direct copy of a fan-traded bootleg. They appear to be up to the same tricks again. That having been said, the performance is very good, reminiscent of the Unplugged album. For an audience recording, this is very well done, the audience is VERY quiet and does not, in my opinion, interfere with the enjoyment of the music, but you should know what you're buying before you buy it. Finally I have a recent live version (a very good one too) of "Down by the River". This is a jam album with only 6 tracks - Cortez the Killer, Like a Hurricane, Powderfinger, Rockin in the Free World, Down by the River, and Welfare Mothers. 'Cortez' spans almost 15 minutes which is sweet. I've seen Neil in concert jam out like this, so I knew what to expect. Remember, you have to like Neil Young in order to like this recording at all. Yes I know that this CD is not on Neil's record label Reprise. Do I care? NOPE. If so, put them together on a playlist and save these dollars!Have you ever attended a concert and wound up sitting next to a slighty over exuberant fan boy that tended to diminish your enjoyment level of the occasion? If so this recording may very well bring you back to that time.
