Let me tell you all, the drive reaches speeds of 1GB/s (about 3x the speed I was getting when it was new). This works as advertised and has such great value for the price - a definite need for anyone in a similar situation to me. A few things to note: at first the shape and lack of flexibility was weird to me, but I actually prefer using my drive with the more rigid cord.
