This tool allows you to accurately and easily measure the automatic transmission fluid in your vehicle. Included with this transmission dipstick are detailed, step-by-step instructions with helpful illustrations so you can complete the job with confidence. Will This Fit My Vehicle? This transmission dipstick will fit any Mercedes model which has the 722.6xx transmission. Note that this is not compatible with other makes that have the 722.6xx transmission such as Dodge. At the bottom of this description you will find compatible Mercedes chassis numbers. If you are unsure of fitment, just ask a question on this page and you will be answered shortly How Does It Work? Unlike most dipsticks, the 722.6 transmission dipsticks are a bit different. They are not designed to be left inside the transmission. They are only for checking fluid levels and then removing. This is a tool, not a replacement part. Simply insert the dipstick into the dipstick tube, remove, and check the fluid level like any other dipstick. This dipstick is marked with hot and cold readings for ease of use. Included with the product you will find detailed instructions with illustrations and diagrams.

Review: This dipstick works great - The materials used in construction are first rate, and the dual ranges for 24 deg and 80 deg are very helpful.I didn't notice until I warmed her up but my MB water temp has a line marked 80 deg on it. Cool. Some people seem stressed about where the "stop" point is, but I would say just unlax there's a little reistance part way down but the endstop is obvious. I had noticed 1st time failure to shift in my 20yr old S500. Added 250cc at a time and it gobbled the whole quart of ATF 134, so another quart on the way. The rubber O ring and cap key are a plus. Without replacing the designed to break plastic red key it seems there would be an open airway into the innerds. BTW the little black cap comes off and on with a loud "click," It would be easy to push pretty hard, not hear that, and thinks it was back on...not.
Review: Exactly like the OE version for 1/3 the price - This is identical to the original Mercedes tool and therefore, should only get a 5 rating. The less than 5 star ratings are ridiculous. I’ve had several other inferior versions over the years. This one has the high-low temp range marks and is not just graduated 1-12 like so many other knock-offs. Also it is packaged in such a way that the tip does not come bent, which is how so many other cheapies come. This one is a real bargain at $11 and is absolutely IDENTICAL to the OE version. Note that there is one rating for "Easy to Install". This tool is NOT installed, simply used and then removed from the vehicle. As far as others giving this less than a 5 rating, I took my time to read some of those reviews and was dumbfounded. With respect, if you don’t know what you are doing in the first place, you shouldn’t be using this tool as you can damage your transmission! Various comments were: Someone complained the instructions were missing. Another said they needed instructions to find their dipstick tube. Again, if you really don’t know how to work on a car and where you should be looking up the WIS (work instructions) information on your car, you shouldn’t be using this tool. Further, the dipstick tubes are in various locations on vehicles with 722.6 transmissions, so the dipstick tool CANNOT come with those instructions. Another complaint was the tool is too long. News flash! It’s SUPPOSED TO BE as it works with various vehicles with the 722.6 transmission and the spring shaft doesn’t go all the way it. The shoulder on the base of the tip bottoms out against the transmission where the tube goes in when you insert it which must be done with care! Another broke the tip off. Again, you should not use this tool if you don’t know what you are doing as you CAN break the tip off. This is not to be forced in the transmission any further than it goes and you will have a lot of the spring shaft still hanging out. This comment obviously came from someone try to force the entire spring shaft into the transmission. Others were unhappy because it didn’t work with their C class, ML350, Sprinter, etc. Well, no, of course not. It’s specifically for the 722.6 transmission. Look up the right part number through a Mercedes dealership for your transmission and then look for the aftermarket equivalent! Or use a reputable dealer like FCP Euro for a cross reference. There was a gripe that the tip is flimsy. It’s a plastic tipped tool EXACTLY like the OE version from Mercedes. Original OE version was made by Febi which you can find for under $25 and it is EXACTLY like this one. The tip feels as tough as the original, which isn’t that tough. Has to be used with care and if the tip starts looking degraded or worn, it’s time for a new one. The tip is plastic on purpose in case that it is ever broken off in the transmission so it won’t damage the transmission internals. A metal tip would destroy the transmission. My favorite comment was a 2 star – The tip is made from a type of plastic that the oil runs off so you can’t get a reading. That’s pretty much the nature of any dipstick. They are challenging to read and you have to use a bright light and do it quickly to see the traces of the fluid. One other said it’s a rip-off because they didn’t get the red locking pin for the cap. So someone didn’t get the locking pin (mine had it) but for $10, I think saying it’s a rip off because it was missing is a bit over the top. If you are buying this tool, I would assume you are going to check your transmission fluid level periodically or why else buy the tool? You would need to buy a bag of the locking pins anyway as one is needed every time you check your fluid as you have to break the old one to check the fluid level. The locking pins are about $5 for a bag of 5. (Dorman part number 917-299) One said they had to leave the dipstick tool out due to length (when operating the vehicle) and hope they didn’t lose it. Really? It’s not supposed to be left in these transmissions under any circumstances. Again, you shouldn’t be messing with your transmission of you truly don’t understand what you are doing.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works
*by A***R on November 20, 2019*

It gets the job done but I had trouble figuring out how far to insert it into the dipstick tube since this tool is much longer than the tube. It did not clearly stop at a certain level, when i gave it a little more force it went in farther so i had to decide which reading was more accurate. It would be so much easier if cars just came with transmission dipsticks.
