It appears to be made of metal on the body of the card reader itself. I Love that it has USB-A, micro-USB, and USB-C connections all in one and has slots that accept microSD cards and full sized SD cards. The little slip-cover case that comes with it has a rubber lanyard of sorts from one end and within this tiny case it can hold an SD card, 2 microSD cards, and even has a place for nano SIM cards. It comes with a basic SIM card removal tool in there as well. All of this in a tiny package that wouldn't be out of place on a keychain or in a pocket. I like how the microSD cards I have needed to read lock in place.
