The top shelf is 12.25, but because of the draw you can't go higher or the drawer will be blocked from opening. But the rest is made of cheap wood that splits easily. I had three splits while putting it together despite the holes being aligned and not over tightening. I used wood glue to fix it and hopefully it will be ok. White finish is very sheer, damages easy and not very washable. I put a coat of polycrilic to ease cleaning and hopefully, protect it a bit better. Many reviews mentioned issues with drawer but I had no problem with it. Overall, for the price I paid, I am happy with it.
