## Overview

The Nikon FT-1 F-Mount Adapter bridges classic Nikon F-mount lenses with the Nikon 1 V1/J1 mirrorless system, delivering a 2.7x crop factor that turns standard lenses into super telephoto powerhouses. It supports autofocus with AF-S lenses, vibration reduction, and full exposure mode compatibility, enabling professionals and enthusiasts to leverage their existing lens collection with cutting-edge camera bodies for versatile, high-speed shooting.

## Description

The FT1 Mount Adapter allows you to use certain legacy F Mount NIKKOR lenses (those designed for use with Nikon D-SLR/SLR cameras) on the Nikon 1 V1. The Mount Adapter is attached to the Nikon 1 V1 and the F Mount NIKKOR lens then attached to the adapter. The FT1 will add an angle of view of 2.7 times that of the F Mount NIKKOR lens' focal length.FEATURES: To use the FT-1, the Nikon 1 J1/V1 camera's firmware must be updated to at least version 1.10. F mount lenses mounted on the FT-1 have a crop factor of 2.7×. Enjoy an angle of view equivalent to that of a super telephoto lens when a telephoto lens is used. (Example: When using a 300mm lens, the equivalent angle of view is that of an 800mm lens.) When using the FT-1 and a compatible AF-S NIKKOR F-Mount lens, users can take full advantage of the Nikon 1's high-speed continuous shooting of 10/30/60 fps. (*When an AF-S lens is used. However, focus is locked with the first shot with continuous shooting.) [P], [S], [A], and [M] exposure modes can be used with CPU lenses. Vibration reduction (VR) functions when VR lenses are used. Enable vibration reduction, or specify a setting, using switches on the lens. NORMAL/ACTIVE modes are supported when lenses equipped with these modes are used. VR functions in NORMAL mode when lenses not equipped with the NORMAL/ACTIVE modes are used. The Smart Photo Selector function cannot be used. Supports 65 existing F-mount NIKKOR lenses AF/AE supported with AF-S lenses only. Autofocusing is possible when AF-S lenses are used. However, focus mode must be set to AF-S (Single AF) and AF-area mode is fixed at Single-point with only the center focus point used. The focus indicator (rangefinder) can be used with CPU lenses. [A] and [M] exposure modes can be used with non-CPU lenses. Aperture is specifie

Review: Must have if you have older Nikon Lenses - This little gem will win your heart should you have older Nikkors in your bag. I have shot over 500 pictures using various AIS Manual, AFD, and AFSG lenses from 11mm to 300mm including the TC-17 Teleconverter with a Nikon 1 V1. All of my older lenses are so much better than the 10-30mm kit lens that most of the time I expect the FT-1 will be on this camera. Here are a couple of items which I discovered that may be helpful as I did not find this information in the Nikon literature and in the case of the 70-200 f/2.8 VR, Nikon support could not answer why this lens was not on the approved list for the FT-1. 1. Motion Snapshot and Smart Photo Selector modes do not work on the Nikon 1 V1 when using the FT-1. 2. The range finder does not work with non-CPU lenses (AIS Lenses) and there is no exif data captured for these lenses. 3. A pleasant surprise is that the the View Finder in the 1V1 is good enough for focusing AIS lenses, even a 50mm prime at f/1.4. 4. It is difficult if not impossible to focus AIS lenses with the monitor even zoomed if hand holding. Tripod live view focusing is great. 5. For AFS, autofocus is very good and manual focus using the range finder is excellent. Exif data is captured by the 1V1. 6. For AFD, there is no autofocus, but the view finder and monitor work well. 7. Now to the 70-200 F/2.8VR, which is not listed as a compatible lens. I saw reference in a Nikon magazine article to this lens being used with the FT-1. It seems that the VR mechanism continues to run rather than cycling on and off based on pushing the shutter release on the camera as it does on my Nikon DSLRs. So I just turn off VR with the switch on the side of the lens and all is well. Of course I must switch VR back on manually if I want it, but this is a lot better than spending over $2000 for the VRII version of the lens! Overall I could not be more pleased with an accessory for my bag as it makes my whole Nikon lens set available to the Nikon 1 system. Shooting at a 35mm equivalent of 1350mm with the 300mm F/4 and TC-17 on the FT-1 at f/6.7 means that I can do descent animal shots with the Nikon 1 system without spending $8,000 for a big heavy telephoto lens. At first I thought Nikon was nuts with the tiny CX sensor, but now I see the brilliance of their design choice. I am 70 years old and to get the kind of telephoto performance in this lightweight package opens up a whole new genre for me as I just could not lug around the heavy lenses and DSLRs in the field. Buy it, you'll love it.....
Review: Great Mount. Look No Further - I tried a cheaper version of this but the auto focus did not function which was no fun. I spent a little more to get this one and have no regrets! Not only do all the electronic work with the attached lens but they work quickly. I use it on a Nikon One and it allows me to mount all of my older Nikon auto lens to the smaller Nikon One mount. Very pleased with the results. I would not waist my time looking to save a few bucks, just start with this one. Hefty, well built and delivers super images from my old lens. Glad I got it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I have a Nikon N4004 camera that has "AF" lens will they work with the FT-1 adapter and my J3 I just purchased ?**
A: The lens will work. It's very difficult to find all the correct information for using an FT-1 with an AF-D lens. So though your question was awhile ago I am posting this answer for others. An AF-D lens will work with any Nikon 1 camera using the FT-1 adapter. Only AF-S lens will allow for autofocus because the focus is built into the lens. However, with this adapter vs a dumb adapter you can use Aperture-Priority, Shutter-Priority, and Programmed modes. The camera can meter. That alone was a sure sell for me. Something else to note is that you may attach your lens and not notice that the aperture has EE. This is an error. I at first thought it meant I had to use the lens to set aperture. To fix this, set your lens to it widest aperture usually marked in orange and lock it. After that the camera will be able to adjust the aperture on its own. That is not in the manual, but is on the Nikon website. All manual focusing is center weighted and the adapter adjusts your focal length by 2.7x. I have read that it is easier to assess your focus through the display. On Ebay you can get the adapter for $180 Used-like New/Mint straight from Japan without bidding including shipment. With bidding I've seen it range with final selling price from $146-$182. I managed did best offer and purchased mine at $175 including shipping.

**Q: Has anyone out there used this with an AW1?**
A: I've used it with an AW1. It worked great with small primes (50mm, even 85mm) but was way to front heavy with large zooms (like the 28-70mm). Only problem I noticed was auto-focus was pretty slow and it had to hunt a lot (worse on the zoom then the primes).

**Q: I have an af-s nikkor 35mm 1.8g lens will it work with this adapter?**
A: Hard to say. Some lenses can be used in manual mode. Others like my 500mm nikor did not work.

**Q: Will this work for a nikkor lens af-s 50mm on a nikon d5200 body?**
A: You don't need this adapter to use the 50mm lens on D5200 body, this adapter is to use NikonDSLR lenses on a Nikon 1 body.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Use Nikon F lenses on Nikon 1 cameras.
*by J***F on April 27, 2025*

I bought this so I could use my Nikon F mount lenses on a Nikon V2 and V3. Works perfectly, but I advise using only the newer lenses with electronic diaphragm (G or F type) since the Nikon 1 system works best with those lenses. I use it with the 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR and it works great. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed in the camera and adapter for it to work properly.
